According to  English Sea News, a rapidly circulating image on social media shows sewage being discharged into the Caspian Sea in Anzali. This comes despite Mahmoud Amiri, the head of the Water and Wastewater Department of Port Anzali, stating in a conversation in 1396 (2017-2018) that they were committed to minimizing and ultimately eliminating sewage discharge into the sea. Unfortunately, this image indicates that no action has been taken after seven years. The image depicts surface water and sewage from Port Anzali, flowing into the Caspian Sea, along a few meters of the Caspian coastline, beside a large hotel in the Goureh area.
